If you have any interest in science communication and social media, you should check out the paper, “An Introduction to Social Media for Scientists,” published in PLOS Biology April 23.
Written by scientists – Holly Bik and Miriam Goldstein – the paper lays out the value of social media tools to professional researchers. Bik and Goldstein note, for example, that social media can be used to disseminate journal articles, circulate information about professional opportunities and post (or track) updates from conferences and meetings.
The paper covers a lot of ground in only eight pages, addressing everything from advice for new users to an overview of social media metrics.
The paper is open access and admirably concise, so I won’t attempt to recap it here. I do, however, urge you to read it.
